Electric Heating- Unfortunately It's the Future!

So, the electrical safety storage heater in the bathroom has stopped working! It had been isolated for some time but turned back on by the new tenants. As I used to be an electrician, I gave it a go. Supply? Temp hooked up to a permanent supply for testing. Thermal fuse? Blown and reset. Element? Looking old but with acceptable resistance. Thermostat? Operational. Sorted and working. I ordered a replacement element just in case. A week later, the thermal fuse went. For the next call, I had to send an electrician as I was drowning in PhD and work-related activities. I was surprised to be notified that it was the thermostat. I reluctantly gave the go ahead for its replacement and sure enough a week later the element had to be replaced. It is this toing and froing that can really add unexpected costs to your budget!

The bad news is that the government is moving toward an all-electric future for cars and housing. Has anyone thought to tell that them that the grid won't cope and that we don't like leccy heating?
